Volocopter’s VoloCity

The VoloCity is the first-to-fly certified Air Taxi developed by Volocopter, a German company. The company has created several flying prototypes, including the Volocopter VC1, VC2, VC200, and 2X, and as of November 2019, these prototypes have collectively made over 1,000 test flights.

The VoloCity is the company’s first production model, and it’s an eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) multicopter aircraft. The VoloCity is designed to transport two people and some small luggage, such as backpacks or briefcases.

It is equipped with 18 rotors that provide a flight range of about 35km and can reach a maximum flight speed of just over 110 km per hour. The design and safety of this electric aircraft have been carefully considered, and it meets all safety standards set by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

Volocopter plans to launch its first commercial flights with the VoloCity VC 2-1 aircraft towards the end of 2022 or during the course of 2023. The company is also aiming for its VoloCity air taxi to be up and running in time to provide passenger services at the Paris Olympics in 2024. The proposed flight route will pass through many of Paris’s iconic attractions, such as Marina Bay Sands, Formula One racetrack, Singapore Flyer, and Sentosa.

Despite the large number of rotors, Volocopter claims the VoloCity is four times quieter than a conventional helicopter, making for a more peaceful ride.

The VoloCity can be flown autonomously, remotely, or by an onboard pilot. The aircraft has a top speed of 68 mph (110 kph) and a range of 22 miles (35 km), making it ideal for short urban hops.
